Skylar Kellam was recently appointed the new Head Women’s Volleyball Coach at the Mount.

With an impressive background in both collegiate play and coaching, Kellam brings a wealth of experience and a passion for cultivating excellence both on and off the court.

Kellam, a standout player at Western Connecticut State University (Westconn), boasts an illustrious collegiate career where she excelled as a libero/defensive specialist. Finishing her tenure at Westconn with 844 digs and ranking third in program history in service aces with 176, Kellam demonstrated not only exceptional skill but also a deep understanding of the game.

Graduating from Westconn in May 2021 with a Bachelor's Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, focusing on Communication and Community Health, Kellam's academic background complements her practical experience in volleyball. She transitioned seamlessly into coaching, starting her career at Downstate Volleyball Club in 2021, where she quickly rose to head coach of the club’s regional teams and served as the assistant coach for their national teams.

Kellam further honed her coaching skills at Pace University, where she played a pivotal role in revitalizing the women's volleyball program. Under her guidance, the team witnessed a remarkable turnaround, improving their record from 5-19 to 13-11 in her first season. Her coaching philosophy, centered on helping student-athletes discover their passions both on and off the court, resonated deeply with the team, fostering a positive and inclusive team culture.

“We are thrilled to welcome Skylar to the Mount Saint Mary College athletics family,” said Shane Bell, director of Athletics at the Mount. “Her track record of success both as a player and a coach, coupled with her dedication to student-athlete development, aligns perfectly with our values here at the Mount. We are confident that under her leadership, our women's volleyball program will continue to thrive.”

Residing in Fishkill, N.Y., Kellam is eager to bring her expertise and enthusiasm to Mount Saint Mary College, where she will continue to inspire and empower student-athletes to reach their full potential.
