Mount mourns coach Lorraine Brady
Former Mount Tennis coach Lorraine Brady led the Knights to six Skyline Conference Championships, was a member of the college’s Hall of Fame, and most importantly, inspired Mount students to give their all athletically and academically.
The beloved coach passed away at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, N.Y., late this spring. She was 76 years old.
Coaching tennis was one of Brady’s greatest passions. Starting in 2002, she led the Women’s Tennis team at the Mount for 10 seasons, and immediately claimed back-to-back Skyline Conference Championships. In 2007, Brady guided the Mount to an unblemished 17-0 record and started a run of six straight conference crowns. Under Brady’s tutelage, the Knights made their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 2009-10.
Brady remains the all-time leader for women's tennis coaching wins at the college. She also mentored the Mount to a 130-30 overall record and a 38-7 mark against Skyline Conference rivals. The Knights posted a program record 19 victories in 2009-10 and won at least 10 matches in nine of Brady’s 10 seasons at the helm.
At the high school level, she coached the John S. Burke Catholic High School Team and the Hudson Valley N.Y. State Empire Games team, winning six gold medals during her 12-year run as the Empire States Games Coach.
For her contributions to the department and her teams’ outstanding performance, Brady was inducted into the Mount’s inaugural Hall of Fame class in 2012.
The Mount will forever be thankful for Brady’s skill, enthusiasm, and love of the game. Thanks for everything, Coach.
