Track and Field team excels

Knights place third at Skyline Championship

The Women’s Track and Field team put in a phenomenal performance in the Spring semester, finishing as runner-up at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship – the program’s best finish ever at the event – as well as snagging third at the 2023 Skyline Conference Championship Meet.

Eastern College Athletic Conference

The Women’s Track and Field team gave their all at the ECAC Championship Meet, placing second overall in the 10-team field with a program record point total of 108. Kaitlin Hansen and Priya Patel each produced runner-up finishes for the Knights.

“What a great day for the Women’s program,” said Head Coach Fred Callo. “The team exceeded my expectations.”

Hansen’s runner-up finish in the 400-meter hurdles highlighted a strong day and she added a fourth-place finish for the Knights in the 100-meter hurdle event. Patel posted a second-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

Maria Baldwin also did well, placing third in the 400-meters, and Sarah Kannenberg earned the fourth position in both the 800 and 1,500-meters.

Mount Saint Mary continued its strong showings with third place finishes in the Discus and Hammer Throw from Emily Schneider. Rebecca Meade and Lindsey Medina also had standout performances, with Meade placing sixth in the Javelin and Medina taking sixth in the Shot Put.

2023 Skyline Conference Championship Meet

In addition to their third-place finish in the event, the Knights had much to celebrate at the 2023 ECAC Championship.

After winning two individual events, freshman Lily O’Brien was named the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Year, while Coach Callo was tabbed the Women’s Coach of the Year.

O’Brien had a big day for the Knights both on the track and in the field, winning the 400-meter hurdles and the Triple Jump. O’Brien, who earned First Team All-Skyline Conference accolades in each event, topped the field in the hurdles and posted a championship mark of 9.90 meters in the Triple Jump. She closed out a stellar day with third place finishes in the 100-meter hurdles, High Jump, and Long Jump.

Jessica Kerrigan turned in strong performances on both the track and in the field, highlighted by a Second Team All-Skyline Conference performance in the 100-meter dash. She also took the runner-up position in the event. Meanwhile, Medina earned Second Team All-Skyline Conference honors in the Hammer Throw for the Knights.

Other highlights included Patel, who turned in a fourth-place finish for the Knights in the 3,000-meter steeplechase; Kannenberg, who earned a fourth-place finish in the 1,500-meters; Kitty Masayda, who ran to a fifth-place finish in both the hurdle races and got fourth in the High Jump; and the 4x100-meter relay team of Kerrigan, Masayda, Hansen, and Raina Quinones, who took third place for the Knights with a time of 55.52 seconds.
